Medicare Plan D

Medigap Plan D is not to be confused with Medicare Part D. Medigap Plan D is another one of the Medicare Supplement plans designed to help fill in Original Medicare gaps in coverage.

Plan D can help cover a lot of the costs associated with Original Medicare.

• Original Medicare Part A deductible
• Part A hospital costs and coinsurance up to an additional 365 days after   Medicare’s benefits are used up
• Part A Hospice Care coinsurance and copayments
• Part B coinsurance and copayments
• Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
• Blood (first 3 pints)
• Foreign travel emergency - 80% up to plan limits

Medicare Plan D does not help cover your prescriptions. None of the Medigap policies will help you with the costs of your prescriptions. This is where your Medicare Part D helps fill in the gaps for your prescription medication coverage.

With Medigap Plan D you will still be responsible for your Part B deductible and Part B excess charges. The part B deductible is an annual deductible that is regulated by the Center for Medicare Services. This deductible can change from year to year if CMS makes a determination to increase or decrease it. Excess charges are additional costs a doctor can charge over and above what Medicare covers, if the state allows for this.
