Medicare Plan M

Medigap Plan M’s benefits are similar to some of the other Medicare Supplement policies. Supplement Plan M covers many of the out-of-pocket expenses with Medicare.
Medicare Plan M covers most of the costs where Original Medicare Parts A and Part B leave off:
• Part A hospital costs and coinsurance up to an additional 365 days after Medicare’s benefits are used up
• Part A Hospice Care coinsurance and copayments
• Part B coinsurance
• Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
• Blood (first 3 pints)
• Foreign travel emergency - 80% up to plan limits

When it comes to the Original Medicare Part A deductible, Medigap Plan M will cover this at 50%. With Part A, the deductible is on a per cause basis and you can be responsible for each time you were to have a hospital stay. The current plan year 2020 has a Part A deductible of $1,408 for each hospital stay up to the first 60 days. If you were to be hospitalized on multiple occasions during the course of the year, you could still end up being responsible for thousands of dollars.

Medigap Plan M also doesn’t provide coverage for your Part B deductible or Part B excess charges. With these not being covered as well as the 50% coverage for your Part A deductible, this can help keep the costs of your monthly premium lower compared to other Medigap plans.
